Seoraksan National Park

Seoraksan National Park is the main reason I came to Sokcho. Obviously, it is a bit away from the city, but getting there is really easy or I was just really lucky- some detailed instructions here. There are 2 local buses – 7 and 7-1 going from Sokcho to the park – not sure about the cost, but it is below 2000 KRW. Admission to the park costs 3500 KRW and has to be paid in cash. For those of you who need to buy any hiking gear – you can get it here, even old people stick. 😀

I have to say, I am not really the biggest fan of hiking, so I was googling a bit where to go in Seoraksan, found this blog and decided to follow it. I decided to skip the cable car ride because there was no chance it would be better than the one to Lantau island in Hong Kong, so I headed straight for the iron Buddha. The trails are marked, you can get a map at the entrance of the park – again zero chance of getting lost.

Since I was walking the whole previous day, I chose a 2.7km hike to Bisondae. On the way, I met Christin from Singapore, who was originally supposed to come here with a friend, who unfortunately had to return home. So Christin was alone, same as me and we decided to continue the hike together.

The hike was quite easy and most of the way I wanted to jump into the clear water. The Geumganggul Cave is about another 30-minute hike past Biseondae if you’re up for it. We decided we’ve had enough and headed back to see the Biryong Waterfall. The hike to the waterfall is maybe a bit more challenging because the rocks can get slippery from time to time. You definitely need sneakers.

Going back we dipped our feet into the refreshing water, which was one of the better things ever.

Since we did around 15km at the end I could barely move. So the rest of the day I spent napping and eating dinner. I was really really glad that my next day involved only moving to Busan by bus because I was too tired to do anything else.
