Life Sabbatical

Two months into my sabbatical

My sabbatical started two months ago, and oh my, how the time flies when you’re having fun. 🙂

I wrote a list of things I wanted to do at the beginning and it is time to do a quick review of my plans and what I have and haven’t achieved:

  • take care of the garden (if I look out the windows it is completely obvious that our garden is seriously neglected, it looks like a cute meadow, but we like it that way). 😛
  • go to a farm and buy yogurts (yes, really…); still haven’t done that, but to be honest, I’ve barely returned home and I am currently staying away from dairy as much as possible.
  • read a book or two
  • write your master thesis; still far away from achieving this one.
  • travel
  • meet with friends
  • work-out
  • rest and relax
  • go for coffee in the city center
  • think about things you’d like to do in life
  • go for a trip
  • go to the store and buy fresh food (again…being completely serious)
  • enjoy in the sun
  • write a blog so you don’t get lazy
  • bake and cook; Will do some baking later in the week, as Žiga’s birthday is approaching. 🙂
  • ride your bike
  • hang photos; Honestly, I have to first sort through all of the photos from my and our trip.
  • go to the farmers market
  • learn German; Just started looking at courses and will start next month.

So, there are still a few things from the list I haven’t crossed off. But there are also tons of things I saw and did during my travels that were not on the list:

  • snorkeled with rainbow-colored fish in Japan
  • saw a magnificent storm pass by 10 m away from us on the beach in Japan
  • gained confidence do to solo travel again sometime in the future
  • did some scuba diving in Slovenia
  • did jungle kayaking during an awesome summer storm in Japan
  • (almost ) stopped using my phone while driving, as I now feel like I have time to use it elsewhere
  • did amazing karaoke in Tokyo
  • laughed with friends in Vienna
  • haven’t doubted (much) if I am doing the right thing
  • met a ton of amazing people everywhere I was
  • fell in love with Japan, its culture, and food
  • did some bartending after a while and it is still fun
  • changed my perspective on a lot of things
  • dropped a bad habit
  • started feeling peaceful and de-stressed again after a long time
  • almost stopped drinking coffee, I suddenly don’t have a need for it anymore
  • started getting my health back in order

So, if you’re feeling like you want/need to do a sabbatical, and people are telling you that you are wrong, I say, go for it, as you will never ever regret investing this time in yourself.
