Gangnam Style

The next neighborhood in Seoul I wanted to visit was Gangnam.

But first things first – manicure and pedicure. I am not really one to do that often at home, but sometimes when you’re traveling, it just has to be done, so you feel like a person again. My Korean roomie from Jeju helped me find the Yebbom saloon and then the magic began. I got gelish, which will hopefully last for 3-4 weeks, so I am fine almost until the end of the trip.

While I was there, I met another new friend from Korea, who took me to Gangnam for proper Korean lunch, which was a completely different experience than eating alone. I am still not exactly sure what we had, but it was awesoooome. We communicated in Korean-English something, but google translate solved a lot of that and we had a great time. Oh, I also managed to buy the T-card, which is basically the same as the Octopus card in Hong Kong. You can use it to pay lots of different things and at the end whatever money is left on the card, you can get back somehow – I’ll figure that out in a few days.

Gangnam is a neighborhood well-known for shopping, rooftop bars and of course PSY’s Gangnam style. I personally prefer Part 2, because I am big on duets :D.

The first thing I found when my new friends left me was Muji store, but basically, you could buy everything and anything in Gangnam. I am starting to fall in love with Korean fashion, cosmetics and the country itself. After leaving with a bag from Muji (again), I decided to find the Gangnam Style statue, which is in front of COEX East Gate, near to Gangnam-gu metro station.

At this point, I finally realized that Google maps is not going to help me much in Korea, so I switched to Naver, which works much much better. If your wi-fi egg dies, like mine unfortunately did, you can get your free wi-fi in COEX.

There is also an aquarium, cinema and lots of other things inside the very stylish COEX, but I decided to go see the big Buddha at Bongeunsa temple, which is just a few minutes walk away. So, soon I found myself at the magically peaceful Bongeunsa (I, for some reason really like Buddhist temples).

As the temperature was around 30°C, I had enough of walking and headed back to Gangnam Station to meet my Korean friends for a drink and a language lesson.
So I didn’t dance in Gangnam, but I had lots of fun anyway.
