On my third day in Hong Kong, jetlag was pretty much still on, so I slept almost until lunch. But it is a holiday, so I guess its ok to do that for a change. I was deciding between visiting Macau and Lantau island for my daily getaway. In the end, Lantau island won, because you get there faster and with the MTR – which helps if you have been sleeping until lunch.
PS: Waiting lines at the MTR are to be taken seriously.
When I arrived to the Ngong Ping Cable Car, which is very easy to find – you just have to follow the huge signs which are basically everywhere – the weather suddenly decided to go from »not so nice« to »Am I going to survive this ride on the cable car« type of weather. So no magnificent views going up.
But when we got to the top I decided to give zero fu*ks to the weather, bought a raincoat – mostly because of my backpack and started exploring in my brand new panda gear. My Tevas are btw perfect for this weather.
Due to rain, there were no crowds (except around the Buddha) and I found Lantau to be on top of my list of favorites in Hong Kong. It was magical and a little bit mysterious.
When I was leaving I finally saw what the cable car is all about and it is magnificent. I am definitely doing that again someday. It is a very Star-Wars like experience.
The night ended with drinks at Castro’s in Kowloon.
