Tokyo, a city of heated toilet seats, escalators going down& not up :), amazing fashion, neon signs, Shibuya crossing, Kabukicho, Harajuku, shrines, karaoke, endless shopping for anything your heart desires & more.
The first night the city completely overwhelmed me and I got incredibly lost in Kabukicho – a part of Shinjuku, trying to find the Godzilla which was above my head the whole time. There was a bit of a “crisis moment”, where I thought I was gonna start crying if I see the same building again, as I was walking in circles. But at least my hair looked awesome – I decided that some pampering was much needed and went to a Japanese hairdresser.
The second day I started easier – I decided to give the city another go, walk around a bit and become familiar with it before Žiga arrives, go see a few must-see Tokyo attractions – starting with Harajuku’s Takeshita Dori (Takeshita Street). Lots of sparkles and unicorn stuff everywhere. Also very good for people watching, girly stuff, eating sweets of all shapes and sizes and shopping for whacko items.
My next stop was the Shibuya crossing. Somewhere at that point, I began to realize that I really, really like this city. It is amazingly nuts.
After that, I decided that I was confident enough to give Shinjuku Station and the area surrounding it another go. Shinjuku Station is btw huge. Soon I realized the Godzilla is staring me in the face. I also managed to find a Hub pub in the second go- still not sure that I found the one I was looking for, but at least I found one, which was an improvement, and I got myself a much needed Mojito. Also – major self-confidence points for going into a bar alone. That has got to be the next step on the ladder of evolvement.
I met some people and finished the day Tokyo style – with karaoke at Karaoke Kan in Kabukicho. I am a sucker for karaoke, so I felt like Christmas came early. Singing Backstreetboys hits was, of course, a must :). Going back home at midnight the metro was completely full of people still in work clothes, coming from one party or another.
PS: I am staying in the most amazing hostel ever – Unplan. No doubt the best and nicest hostel I’ve ever stayed in with the best staff. <3
